Someone secret Santa'd me a food processor for Xmas, so I put it to work.
Down here in SE Texas, there's a Mexican food chain called Taqueria Arandas. They're not a shitty chain, like some others.
Anyhoo, when you sit down they bring out the traditional chips & non-traditional salsas.
The green salsa is a creamy tomatillo-based delight, but that's not why we're here.
Their red salsa is a "fresh salsa" (not cooked), and I've been calling it "jugo de los dioses" (juice of the gods) for years. It is absolutely excellent as a substitute for your breakfast orange juice (or any time you feel like "juice").
Recipe:
8 Roma tomatoes
Fresh jalapeno pepper
Fresh white or yellow onion
Fresh cilantro
Salt
Lemon or lime (or lemonlime) juice
Cut the stemholes out of the tomatoes and slice into quarters
Cut about an eighth of the onion
Cut the jalapeno to taste (i used 1⁄4 of a large pepper here)
Separate out about 1⁄4 of the cilantro. If you've got the cilantro with long stems, cut off the stems below the leaves, if not no prep needed.
Add the prepared veggies to the food processor, and then 1⁄2 tsp salt & 4 Tbsp lemon/lime juice
Throw the lid on and pulse that bad boy until you've got a slurry. If you've got a smaller food processor, you may need to do this by halves.
If you're gonna use it as salsa, I'd suggest investing in condiment bowls. I drink it like it's a milkshake (beats the shit outta OJ, IMHO)
Oh, you want pix?

Like a turbo charged V8 juice. Sounds great.

Yeah, but thick enough you can use it as a salsa if you want to.

I'll have to try this. I love salsa. Might add a Tabasco pepper to the mix.

I'd change up to 1 halbenero, and a couple serrano's. And you can keep the celantro. I eat enough dust everyday at work. I don't need my food to taste like it as well.

I was trying to copy a local Mexican food chain recipe.chillypepper wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:38 pm I'd change up to 1 halbenero, and a couple serrano's. And you can keep the celantro. I eat enough dust everyday at work. I don't need my food to taste like it as well.
A place called "Taqueria Arandas" (Inglés opcional) serves red & green salsas with chips (like most every other Mexican place). Both are fresh "ingredients only" (not oil-based cooked) salsas, and are delightful.
The salsa in this thread is 100% identical in taste, but a little smoother in appearance (the restaurant hand chops their onions, jalapenos & cilantro, where I pulsed mine in the blender)
It's not meant to blow your head off, but to be a refreshing substitute for morning OJ or relish.
