I have been playing drums for over 35 years. I have been in many bands and performed live on stage hundreds of times.
On a whim, I agreed to audition with a local band looking for a percussionist. Never played percussion with a live band before; just drums. So I packed up my djembe, cowbells and a small assortment of shakers. Instead of having me play percussion, they had me play a drum set to the song "moving on" by Bad Company. They liked me and we sat around bullshitting for about an hour.
The second audition was with the full band. I played maracas, tambourine and cowbells to various rock songs being careful to stay out of the drummer's space.
In a nutshell, they LOVED what I was doing (even though I really didn't know what I was doing).
I'm geeked, having a great time and making lots of noise!
Just joined a band as a PERCUSSIONIST!
